Every lesson with Karen was a real pleasure. She is easily the best voice teacher Iíve ever had.

Karen is so knowledgeable about the voice. It is amazing. She has helped me make monumental adjustments to my instrument and I am so thankful to have had the opportunity to work with her. She creates a safe and positive learning environment. She understands musical theater singing, classical singing, belting, and mixing. She can do it all. She gives me notes that I am able to take away with me and work on at home. She appreciates improvement and hard work. She is a hard worker herself and cares about answering her studentsí questions and giving them tools they need in order to make different vocal choice and adjust to directorís notes.

Karen has helped my voice immensely over the past year, and is an irreplaceable teacher and presence in the theater department. She is always kind, willing, helpful and passionate about what she is teaching.

I stand by the statement that Iíve made more progress with Karen in a shorter amount of time than I have with any other voice teacher. Every lesson is efficient in breaking my habits, expanding my range, and learning new ways to make my vocal technique even better. Karen is great at doing everything in her power to have you meet your goals. She has multiple ways of communicating points, and when she doesnít know a solution to a problem, she knows where to obtain the information. Karenís educational abilities are something to marvel.

I have learned so much from Karen. My vocal technique growth from my first semester until now is outrageous. I appreciate everything she has done for me.

I have nothing negative to about my semester with Karen. She is a goddess when it comes to the musical theatre voice. I left all my lessons happy and eager to practice the material we covered. Sheís easy to approach about any subject and is 100% devoted to your progress. She makes sure youíre practicing and gives different exercises to work on different weaknesses in repertoire and technique in general. I have grown so much this semester with Karen and I canít wait to continue next semester. She is a great asset to our department and Iím sure the evaluations for her are unanimous because I havenít heard anyone say anything negative about her.

Wow. I have never had such a knowledgeable, helpful and approachable voice teacher. Karen really knows what she is talking about, and has a knack for communicating it effectively. She is an amazing addition to our department and each and every lesson surprises me. Thanks Karen!!!!!

Karen is wonderful. She has helped me improve in all areas. She is respectful and approachable. I like that she genuinely cares about my work and my improvement.

I have had three different voice teachers in my three years at the University of Miami. The three women have been dynamically different every single year. Karen is by far the best of the three. She is so knowledgeable and kind natured that her ambition is to make you better than fit a mold that she wants of her students. I feel as if my lessons are specifically about what will make me better, and I also believe that my one semester with her has been more valuable than my past two years at this university. Karen is incredible at what she does and we are extremely lucky to have her teach us voice lessons.

Karen is the best thing that has happened to the UM Theater Department!

She is an incredibly knowledgeable and proficient teacher. Her whole approach is fantastic starting with learning about and understanding the students and what he/she personally hopes to achieve as this leads into physiological and technical enlightenment. The student learns of the truly boundless potential of the voice, which is as inspiring as it is efficient.

Iím so happy Karen was added to our faculty. She is so knowledgeable of the voice and is constantly doing her research to become more and more knowledgeable. She comes in with new methods and if something doesnít click, sheíll do her research and come up with a different approach. She really cares about your improvement and goes out of her way to help you. I have improved so much this semester with Karen. My professors, my peers, and I all notice it and it feels great!

Love this woman. Her knowledge and respect for the voice is exceptional. Her teaching methods and ability to mold the student is what sets her apart. I have learned much from Dr. Hall, whether it is from personal lessons, or her valuable group sessions. We spent ample time bettering my weaknesses as well as exploring vocal versatility. The only negative thing is that I got her as a teacher so damn late. I will miss this woman dearly. I truly look forward to keeping in touch with her.

Karen is a huge asset to this department. I have improved exponentially. The theater department needs to keep her forever.

She is an incredible asset to this department. I have learned SO much from her.

Karen is the best thing that has happened to the Theatre department. She truly understands and values every student and their voice.

As a student that came into the school with vocal training that led me in the wrong directions, Karen was a godsend. I have never met an instructor more eager to teach you her field, and who is as advanced in that field. Her doctorate is extremely important that respect. I have had many teachers without the proper training that eventually led to vocal damage. I truly hope the theater department knows what they are losing. If I had my way, Karen would have a more prominent role in this department rather than leaving it all together. She is charismatic, relatable, and mostly importantly: open. It is not her way goes. That is something I value as a teacher. I donít feel I am being instructed on her way doing things. In her office I feel as though we are a team working towards what works for ME. She does not help me fit a mold but create my own. Karen has inspired me on more than one occasion. Furthermore, she has been a support system. There have been times when I have been hard on myself and teacherís criticisms and poking fun have made my situation even worse. Karen has a sort of maternal way of teaching. Not condemning you for your habits but choosing to see them as obstacles that excite her to overcome. I personally think, and I know I am not alone, in saying Karen should be fought for. I have improved more in the past year and one half than I ever expected. She instills confidence and perseverance in her students. I know I shall keep in contact with Karen as she goes on to bigger and better things. Her knowledge will now be used to better not just one school but also hundreds with her upcoming research. I hope the department regrets this loss as much as I do. She is organized, warm and overall a very good teacher. If I were in charge I would do anything in my power to make her stay.

I have trained with a total of five voice teachers throughout my life, three of them being at this university. Without a doubt, Dr. Karen S. Hall has been the most valuable of all of them. In one year I have learned a plethora of techniques and Karen has broken me of habits that have been problems for more than half a decade. Dr. Karen S. Hall is by far one of the most valuable assets to this program and the university. Not only on my part, but I have seen monumental improvements within my classmates as well. The environment of her hourly voice lesson is hard working, warm, kind, and fun. Her personality and methods make her students strive to be better, even at times when they are beyond frustrated. We should not ever lose Dr. Hall. She is more than phenomenal at her work, and her nature brings incredible warmth to the environment of the theatre environment. We are all very blessed to have her as our vocal techniques teacher.

Karen Hall is one of the best decisions the theatre department has ever made. She is extremely knowledgeable about the voice and is able to communicate effectively. My voice has improved a lot because of her and more importantly I understand my voice much better. She is a wonderful person and is very comfortable to be around. She has high expectations, which makes me want to work harder. She is a wonderful person and a wonderful voice teacher.

Karen is the best voice teacher I have had in many years, let alone the best vocal teacher to have entered the Musical Theater program at this school. She treats every student with respect, creates growth in studentsí voices within weeks and has patience. She is a genius addition to this program, and I donít doubt that she will help make this program rise in reputation and standard.

Thank you for hiring Karen Hall! She is incredible. She has such an extreme knowledge of the voice, that I felt completely safe in her hands. Her technical exercises have improved all of my weak points, and she is wonderful with working songs. Karen is one of the greatest assets of the theatre department.

Karen is a fantastic voice teacher. She is now the most valuable asset to the University of Miami Department of Theater Arts. I have grown as a performer and my voice has come leaps and bounds since the beginning of this semester.

I felt that I grew as a singer in so many ways this semester. Not only was I more self-aware of my own talent level, but I was able to figure out what I specifically needed to work on technically, as opposed to just thinking ďWow, Iím a terrible singerĒ all the time. I now really know exactly what I need to work on, and have been given the tools to fix these issues as I move forward. I became much more confident in the material that I was performing in class, and much more confident as a performer in general, just knowing that I was doing all I could to fix my technical problems.

Karen was an extremely open, caring teacher. She was genuine in everything she said, and was more than accommodating when it came to scheduling lessons. I really felt like Karen cared about me as a person, and not just as a singer. She was very concerned about my health, and always listened to any questions I had or any problems I had in my outside life. Honestly, though, she is the best voice teacher Iíve ever had.

Karen gave me a better understanding of my voice. She was able to provide me with the mechanics about my voice rather than abstract concepts. What I learned from Karen in one semester was greater then anything I learned from any voice teacher Iíve ever had.

Karen is so knowledgeable and passionate about what she teaches, that as a student canít help but be excited to take lessons with her. She cares about each of her students and puts a lot of effort into making our learning experiences individualized. I love how we set goals with each other at the beginning of the semester. This way we were both on the same page and continually worked towards those goals. She is extremely clear when it comes to giving corrections as well as when she is teaching new concepts. Thanks to her my vocal development has come along significantly and I have learned so much. Not only is she a wonderful teacher, but also she is an incredible example as a singer and person in the ďbusiness.Ē I strongly recommend this teacher; she has made a positive impact on my college experience and me and likely does so to everyone else she teaches. I am honored and thankful to have worked with Karen.

What a great semester. Your ability to articulate exactly what you mean makes lessons much more efficient. Your positive, energetic spirit makes singing more fun than it already is and creates an atmosphere in which I feel totally comfortable to talk about of sing anything. Canít wait for next semester!

I can honestly say I have enjoyed Karenís class to the fullest extent. Coming from a background of lackluster voice instructors who were never clear about their techniques, I find this class to be clear and constructive. She takes time to explain things thoroughly and furthermore, what I truly appreciate, she keeps mentioning these things throughout the lesson to make sure they make sense. I know Karen takes great pride in her work and that fact keeps me working jut as hard as she does. Itís wonderful to have a teacher who not only loves what they do but also gets excited when you show even a glimpse of what she feels. I have never walked out of her class feeling defeated, yet more capable in my art. I am so excited for next semester!

My vocal abilities have improved this year more than ever before. I now know where to place my voice with confidence.

Karen knows so much about the voice and how it works, and hot to effectively produce a healthy sound. I have improved so much since taking lessons with her. I have heard improvement in not only my voice but in all my classmates.

I learned a lot this semester and improved vastly as well. She is an excellent teacher with a lot to give and an incredible amount of knowledge.

Karen, I love you so much! I felt like I have grown significantly this semester, largely due to my study with you. Your kindness and enthusiasm make every lesson a positive experience.
